She was born in Chicago in 1875 and married Charles Smith, a wealthy businessman, in 18982. They had two children, Helen and Charles Jr., and traveled extensively around the world2.Helen Hall Smith was known for her generosity and civic involvement in Sarasota. She donated land and money to various causes, such as the Sarasota County Library, the Sarasota Art Association, the Sarasota Garden Club, and the Sarasota Memorial Hospital. She was friends with many notable people, such as John Ringling, Bertha Palmer, and Dwight James Baum12.Helen Hall Smith died in 1961 at the age of 86. She was buried at the Sarasota Memorial Park Cemetery. Her legacy lives on in the many institutions and organizations that she supported and enriched12.
