Dark green cloth with paper spine label with title: Heartbreak House, Great Catherine, & Playlets of the War by George Bernard Shaw. No dust jacket. Very small label on back fixed endpaper: Hochschild, Kohn & Co. Hochschild, Kohn & Co. was a department store established in Baltimore in 1897; it was later known as Hochschild Kohn's. Contents: Heartbreak House: a Fantasia in the Russian manner on English Themes -- Great Catherine (Whom Glory Still Adores) -- O'Flaherty V.C.: a Recruiting Pamphlet -- The Inca of Perusalem: an Almost Historical Comedietta -- Augustus Does His Bit: a True-to-Life Farce -- Annajanska, The Bolshevik Empress: a Revolutionary Romancelet. Heartbreak House was the only full-length play Shaw wrote during World War One. The short plays included here include three satirical works about war. With: newspaper clippings left in the book by a previous owner: the review of this book by John Corbin in the New York Times Book Review, Dec. 7, 1919; and 2 photographs of Shaw at the filming of the movie, released in 1931, based on his playlet How He Lied to Her Husband, with the stars Robert Harris, Vera Lennox, and Edmund Gwenn. In Very Good- Condition: lacking part of spine label; spine is sunned; shadow on front endpapers from former presence of newspaper clippings; otherwise, clean and tight.
