New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1937. 416pgs.map endpapers. Attractive Bookplate. Blue Cloth, gilt lettering. Author inscription and signatrue on the half-title page. There is light rubbing to the spine, toning to the pages, otherwise a clean, unmarked copy. The book chronicles Hoffman’s travels and efforts to create a series of sculptures for the Field Museum of Natural History’s Races of Mankind following being picked to do it in 1929. The parameters of the project were spelled out by Henry Field, who stated that Hoffman, was commissioned to proceed to those lands where native races are at their purest and there register in clay and finish in bronze the living lineaments of selected types.. Signed and Inscribed By the Author. Early edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Octavo.

The store contains over 10,000 books in over 80 different subjects, and favors good used books and good literature (both hardcover and paperback) over popular books and bestsellers. Our Internet business began in 2001. Upon visiting the store, we can show and sell individual online titles upon request. Store hours are 10:00-5:30 (Tues.-Sat.) and 11:00-4:00 (Sun.). The business is run by Richard Chalfin.
