A Victorian era novel focusing on the life of British soldiers and the British military. John Strange Winter was the pseudonym for Henrietta Eliza Vaughan Stannard, 19th century English author. Most of her work focused on military life, with Ruskin noting Winter as the 'author to whom we owe the most finished and faithful rendering ever yet given of the character of the British soldier,' (Wikipedia). GOOD condition. Heavy chipping, tearing and creasing along the spine, with some minor loss of wrapper along the rear hinge. Moderate to heavy browning to the book and wrappers. Minor to moderate soiling. A few minor chips and tears present along the extremities. Interior solid and clean.
