About This Item
Port Jervis, NY: The Gazette, Book & Job Print,. Very Good- with no dust jacket. [1892]. Hardcover. American Indian; Military; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 246, [6] pages; Hawk's Nest, or the Last of the Cahoonshees, a Tale of the Delaware Valley and Historical Romance of 1690. Most copies of this book are found in their original printed wraps. However, this is a fairly unique copy, bound by a binder in the same town as the publisher. The tale relates to this same area of New York, in the valleys of the Delaware and Neversink rivers, where Tom Quick, the Indian slayer hid out and wreaked havoc on the Native American population in the area in the name of vengeance. He is the main character in this tale. Contents tight, occasional scattered foxing, dusty, interior hinges cracked. Binding soiled, a rubbed through spot at spine, corners rubbed through and bumped, a gnawed spot at lower rear corner. Laid in is a book dealer's catalog description. In contemporary binding, whether original or not I cannot say. .
