Harriet Martineau (1802-1876) was an English social theorist and Whig writer, often cited as the first female sociologist.'She suggested many remedies to cure the ills of the Colonial emigration system. See her series of tracts 'Illustrations of Political Economy' especially part 10, 'Homes Abroad', pub. 1832, 12mo. being an account of farm labourers who emigrated to Van Diemen's Land.'Ref : Portraits of the famous and Infamous, Nan Kivell and Spence.Alonzo Chappel was an American artist who depicted many historical scenes and portraits.
