New York: Harper and Brothers, 1852. Half Leather. Fair. Half-leather with marbled boards. 864 pp. With black and white illustrations throughout, including depictions of various women's fashions. A bound volume of this literary journal, featuring several installments of 'Bleak House,' by Charles Dickens, as well as 'Drooping Buds,' also by Dickens. Also included are installments from ' My Novel; or Varieties in English Life,' by Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton. Another section features a description and account of the Franconia or White Mountains of New Hampshire, including an illustration of the Old Man of the Mountains, with another section on Napoleon and reoccurring features on fashion. FAIR/GOOD condition. Front cover interior hinge cracked and separating along the hinge, somewhat tenuously attached. Very heavy scuffing to the boards, with moderate toning, soiling, staining and wear. Upper 1 ½ of backstrip missing. Text block solid with scattered foxing and soiling. Paper toned. Owner's name on inside front cover.
