About This Item
Toronto: McClelland & Stewart, 1939. First Canadian Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Good. This is the first Canadian edition, but with the dust jacket produced by Little Brown & Co. for the first American edition. The interior of the book is clean and tight, with just a few signs of previous use. The red covers are clean, with wear at edges and corners. The dust jacket is only in good condition, with light wear and handling overall, but a large brown stain (coffee?) on the back panel. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover. Synopsis: "A romantic novel about young Lisbeth who had her own way of accomplishing her ends. Circumstances led to Lisbeth's livng in a Bohemian apartment in London with her brother Ronny, who needed reforming. Helping Lisbeth in this mission was one Mr. Partridge, middle-aged, gentle enough, but not averse to expressing his displeasure with civilization in a number of -- well, slightly illegal -- ways. Lisbeth got a job with a firm called Wanted Women, Mr. Partridge donned kilts and helped promote The Bonnie Scotland Tea Rooms, and Ronny, when pressed, drew legs and lingerie for advertisements. Then an attractive young American namesd Lester Hamilton entered their lives.
