About This Item
E-233: Viking Books for Young Readers. Good. 1934. Hardcover. Hardcover. 8vo. The Viking Press, New York. 1934. Illustrated with Color Plates. Signed and inscribed by Ludwig Bemelmans on the FFEP. First Edition/First Printing. Bound in paper covered illustrated cloth boards with gilt titles present. Boards have shelf-wear present to the extremities (lacking spine). No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. Bemelmans' first published book was "Hansi", which was originally published in 1934. The name "Hansi" means "Johnny" and both Hans and John were common enough names in that time period. The book deals with a young boy who is going on holiday to his uncle's home up in the mountains. It's Christmas break. The author is able to capture the trepidation of the boy, who does not want to leave his mother, although he is anticipating a good time up in the mountains. EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; Signed by Author .
