Signed by the author on the dedication page, dated 1969. Light green cloth boards with dark green lettering on cover and spine. Minor shelf wear to edges; spine is a bit cocked. Beige illustrated dust jacket with green lettering on cover and spine. Jacket is wrapped in mylar. Moderate toning and staining; slight chipping and creasing to edges. Binding is tight. Interior is clean except for light toning and occasional stray pencil marks. Previous owner's name in pen on front free endpaper. Includes a frontispiece, 50 black-and-white photos, and a map design on endpapers. This classic monograph on the Yokuts of central California is based on 30 years' intensive study and hundreds of interviews with tribal elders. It covers a wide variety of topics related to the lifestyle and culture of the Yokuts including clothing, diet, language, and basketry.
