About This Item

Kansas City, Missouri: University Trustees, W.R. Nelson Trust, 1973. First Printing, Fifth Edition. . Large Softcover. Near Fine/Issued Without Jacket. A two-volume catalogue of the collections in the William Rockhill Nelson Gallery of Art and Mary Atkins Museum of Fine Arts in Kansas City. Both volumes are 8 1/2 x 11", with heavy card pictorial covers, with most pages containing 1 to 3 black & white photo reproductions of the art as well as brief descriptions of the time period and the individual works. Volume 1 is 264 pages and contains the museum's collection of Western art beginning in the Ancient Near East, Egypt, Greece and Rome and continuing through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque, the 18th, 19th & 20th centuries, with the Starr Collection of Miniatures and American painting perhaps being areas of special interest. Volume 2, 168 pages, contains the institution's Asian collection with its emphasis on Chinese, Japanese and Indian art though Southeast Asia and Persia are also well represented. The photography and descriptive formats are similar to Volume 1. Both volumes are in excellent condition; the covers showing only a touch of soiling and a bit of edgewear, no tears, creasing or chipping. The text is clean and unmarked, tight and square. An economical study/reference set.
