About This Item
London: Frederick Warne and Co., 1888. Leather. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". William Harvey. A very smart revised and illustrated edition of Charles Knight's literary collection from a variety of well-known authors. The "Chandos Classics" revised edition of this work, in a half calf binding with marbled boards, paste downs, end papers and edges. Noted English publisher, editor, and author Charles Knight (1791-1873) compiled this collection of excerpts from various influential British authors throughout history. Divided into what is intended to be half-hour sections, with the intention of the work being read over a year. Included are works such as The May Queen by Tennyson, The Voluble Lady by Jane Austen, and The Duel by Dickens. Knight offers biographical and critical notes to accompany the works, with illustrations by William Harvey. In a half calf binding. Externally very smart, with just a little rubbing to the extremities and bumping to the boards. Front hinge is splitting but remains firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the odd spot to the first and last pages. Very Good
