London: Frederick Warne and Co, 1885. Leather. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". None. A smart four volume set of Charles Knight's anthology of short writings by important authors. The Chandos 'new edition' of this work. Undated, dated using LibraryHub. Complete in four volumes. Illustrated, with vignettes throughout. A collection of excerpts from various influential British authors throughout history. Divided into what is intended to be half-hour sections, with the intention of the work being read over a year. Written according to the canon of the nineteenth century, with contributors such as Milton, Pope, Dante, Donne, Dr J Kitto, Dryden and more. In uniform half calf bindings. Externally, generally smart. Rubbing to the spines, heavier to the head and tail. Gilt has faded to the spine labels. Small loss to the head of spine to volumes I, III and IV. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound, Occasional pencil notes to the contents leaves. Pages are bright. Occasional light spots to pages. Spots are heavier to the first and last few pages. Very Good
