Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1928. Hardcover. fine. First American edition thus. Hardcover in black cloth lettered and decorated in red. 383 pp. A fine, tight copy, bit of wrinkling to the bottom corner of the rear cloth. No jacket. Scottish author John Buchan's novel of romance and adventure, his first set in modern times, written when he was 24 years old. The novel is structured in two parts--the first deals with romance and manners in upper class Scotland while the second is of adventuer and duty in India. Originally published in the U.K. in1900 and by Houghton in America the same year. This edition ia a bit confusing bibliographically as it bears Houghton's first edition indications but is the seond American edition.
