HAIDA by Lieut. Comdr. William Sclater

Amen House, Toronto: Oxford University Press, Geoffrey Cumberlege - Publisher to the University HMCS Haida is a Tribal-class destroyer that served in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) from 1943 to 1963, participating in World War II and the Korean War. She was named for the Haida people. The only surviving Tribal-class destroyer out of 27 vessels constructed for the RCN, the Royal Navy, and the Royal Australian Navy between 1937 and 1945, Haida sank more enemy surface tonnage than any other Canadian warship and as such is commonly referred to as the "Fightingest Ship in the Royal Canadian Navy". Book is not dated inside but Author's Note is dated October 1946. There is a signed dedication on the inside front cover: "Ted from Bill, May '48"....see picture in listing. I have obtained a photograph of a signature of William Sclater from another book and the writing is the same...also see picture.
Book in good clean condition, royal blue cloth boards with gold gilt lettering on front and spine. Dust jacket, which is not price clipped, also good clean condition. There are a few small minor tears around the edges. Jacket has been covering in clear brodart for protection.
