A 1974 reprint of a work first appearing in an Everyman's Library edition in 1906. Sir Walter Scott's second novel in his Waverley series was first published in 1815. Alternately titled "The Astrologer," this is the story of the struggles of characters in southwest Scotland in the 1760s-80s, with some parts set in Holland and India. With a preface and glossary by W. M. Parker, and an introduction by the author. Everyman's Library #133. --- In Everyman's Library larger format binding style 5. Full green cloth-look paper-covered boards with titling and "Everyman's Library" gilt-stamped on spine, dolphin-and-anchor device borrowed from Aldine press in gilt at tail of spine. In colorful dust jacket variant with Keith Ward drawing on front panel. --- An about-Near Fine copy: bright, tightly-bound and unmarked, though with prior owner's rubberstamping to front free endpaper. Unclipped, unpriced jacket is in great shape, though with mild rubbing and a couple of tiny tears to upper edges, else intact, undamaged and wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.; 12mo - 7 to 7-1/2 in. tall; xiv, 434 pages .
