About This Item
SEALED in publisher's shrink wrap, Perfect Condition! THE GUTENBERG BIBLE, a stunning facsimile reproduction of the extremely rare, complete 1450's Gutenberg original, the book that changed the world, in Deluxe Limited Edition Limited to 2,500 hand-numbered folio volumes. Having developed what would prove the invention of the millennium, the mechanical movable type printing press, Johannes Gutenberg published a glorious edition of the Catholic Vulgate Bible to showcase his revolutionary technology. Fewer than 180 copies of Gutenberg's original were printed, most for wealthy purchasers who commissioned hand-scripted headings and hand-painted color illuminations. All copies were purchased even before printing was complete. Revered for its design and artistry, the Gutenberg Bible, a wonder in its own day, is now regarded one of the world's most iconic artifacts. Only 21 complete copies survive and none have been offered for sale since 1978. In the last decade, an eight page fragment sold for nearly $1,000,000. Experts estimate a complete volume would today be worth $25-35 million. This magnificent Easton reproduction, a grand 12" x 16" 1286 page volume bound in premium leather with a traditional 'hubbed' spine, 22kt gold cover design, and title inlays. Every page of the original Gutenberg Bible is reproduced in actual full size just as printed in the 1450's, including all unique red ink hand-scripted interior headings and beautiful hand-painted full-color 'illuminated' decorations from the original 15th century volume. Bound in fine genuine leather, this utterly flawless, library-quality copy of Gutenberg is accented with 22k gold lettering and decorations and hubbed with Easton's distinctive raised spine rings. Page ends are gilded in 22k gold to protect against dust and humidity. Bible is also printed on archival-quality acid-neutral paper, Pages are Smyth sewn, in which groups of folded pages are stitched together using binder thread, into the bindings, and boast traditional marbled endsheets, gilded page-ends for strength and durability. Endsheets of moire silk and a permanent satin ribbon page marker. Incommunable! (pics from opened copy.) Book #Cv2501. $2000. We specialize in rare Ayn Rand, history, and science.
