About This Item

J M Dent & Co., 1909. 1st Thus. Hardcover. VG++/G. RACKHAM, Arthur. 1st Thus. 16.3 x 23.5 cm red cloth with profuse gilt stamped decoration and titles to the front and spine. Top edge gilt other edges blue, pictorial endpapers, xv (i) 291 (1)pp with 12 full page colour plates including tissue guarded frontispiece, 2 black and white and over 30 head and tail pieces all by Arthur Rackham. With very scarce original jacket with 7/6 price on the spine. The boards have been well protected by the dust jacket and are much brighter than is normally found with just a 1.5 x 2.5cm triangular section of slight fading on the spine matching where the jacket has loss. Internally, there is a little toning to the endpapers and very occasional spotting but no name, inscription or book plate. The very scarce dust jacket, which is now protected in a removable clear jacket (not shown in our images), has appears to have been repaired /reinforced with japanese paper down the front joint and along a small section of the lower joint. It has toning and loss at the foot of the spine and of 1 x 2.5 cm and chips along the front joint and loss at the head of 1.5 - 2.5 cm. It is rubbed chipped and creased along the edges with loss to the corners of between 0.1 and 2.2 cm. All in all a very nice looking copy in a very scarce original jacket. Rainford & Parris Books welcomes enquiries, so please do not hesitate to ask if you require further images or have any questions. All books are packaged with great care.
