Plus numerous plates, maps and plans, some folding, some coloured, tipped- or bound-in, all outside the pagination. Plus large folding "Plan of Peking" printed in multiple colours, at rear pocket. Several original Addendum slips tipped-in. HARDCOVER, bound in the original publisher's quarter yellow cloth and matching boards, upper cover illustrated, spine lettered, boards slightly rubbed or finger marked, short tear to blank margin of one folding plan and to first free endpaper. In about fine condition. Minor blemishes noted, a surprisingly clean and well preserved copy with absolutely crisp maps. ~ Fully revised edition. First published in 1909. Emil Sigmund Fischer (1865-1945), banker and traveler, born in Vienna. He came to China in 1894 and was a banker in Shanghai, later in Tienstin. Beside "Guide to Peking" he wrote "Travels in China, 1894-1940" (Tienstin, 1941); "Through the Silk and Tea Districts of Kiang-nan and Chekiang"; "The Trans-Siberian Route" and others. He was held prisoner by the Japanese from 1941 until his death. With contemporary ticket to first paste-down, in English and Chinese, "French Bookstore, Peiping (China)". TIMO-1 OUT
