About This Item
[?HYDE, Robert Wilson, artist]. The Guest Book. Oblong folio, Full green morocco [by Robert Hyde?] (front cover pleasantly faded to brown at edges), elaborate inner gilt dentelles, green moire end papers, a.e.g. N.p., n.d. [Santa Barbara? ca. 1902-1910?].
There is no indication here as to the identity of the binder, the artist, or the date and place of printing, although it resembles the work of Hyde, a member of the Santa Barbara arts and crafts movement. The preliminary illustrations are medieval in nature,a specialty of Hyde's. We know Hyde produced one-of-a-kind volumes including a Guest Book. Nonetheless, all we have is supposition. Whatever its origins, this is a beautiful piece of work, inside and out.
