Simon and Schuster, New York, 1936. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Signed by the author across the front free endpaper, and uncommon thus. Some of the naturalists discussed include Linnaeus, Chevalier, Lamarck, Bartram, Alexander Wilson, John James Audubon, Goethe, Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace. Green cloth boards, gilt laurel design on front, gilt lettering on red title plate on spine. A very good book with bumping to upper corners of boards and a bit of fading to spine, some toning/browning to endpapers and pastedown, particularly at the hinge.
