"...Your Letter Leads Off The Next Vom" [#22, May 1942]... [And Discussing Printing Services That Ackerman Could Assist With]. Typed, Not Signed (File Copy). Per The Encyclopedia Of Science Fiction, " Us Author And Editor Lawrence Taylor Shaw (1924-1985), An Active Sf Fan From The Early 1940S And A Member Of The Futurians; Married To Lee Hoffman 1956-1958. His Fanzine Destiny's Child Is Best Remembered For The 1945 Issue Carrying Damon Knight's Critical Attack On That Year's Astounding Serialization Of A E Van Vogt's The World Of A (August-October 1945 Astounding; Rev 1948). Beginning With "Secret Weapon" For Fantasy Book In 1948 As By Terry Thor, Shaw Published Some Sf Stories Into The Early 1950S, But Was Primarily Known For His Editorial Work. He Was Associate Editor Of If From May 1953 To March 1954. In 1955 He Became Editor Of Infinity Science Fiction (1955-1958), Which Grew To Be One Of The Leading Sf Magazines Of Its Period; And He Later Started A Companion Title, Science Fiction Adventures (1956-1958). When Both Magazines Failed In 1958, He Turned To Editing In Other Fields, Including The Media Magazine Monsters And Things (1959) And Arguably Its Companion - Which Included Some Fiction - Monster Parade (1958-1959). He Also Edited The Non-Sf Cars: The Automotive Magazine, In Whose August 1960 Issue Algis Budrys Began An Opinion Column Titled "Chipping Gears" As By Jeffries Oldmann. In 1963 Shaw Gave Up Magazine Work And Came Back To Sf As Editor For Lancer Books (1963-1968), Where He Built A Successful Sf Line And Edited The Anthologies Great Science Fiction Adventures (Anth 1963) And Terror! (Anth 1966). He Subsequently Worked For Dell Books (1968-1969) And American Art Enterprises (1969-1975), Founding Major Books For The Firm. In 1975 He Began To Work As A Literary Agent, But This New Career Was Hampered By Poor Health. He Received A Special Hugo In 1984.
