About This Item

New York: Dial Press, 1968. First Edition. Signed and inscribed by the author, Howard Sackler, to actor Yaphet Kotto: “For Yaphet, with great expectations & best wishes to a new friend. Howard. 17 August ‘69.” Additionally, signed by Yaphet Kotto on the title page. Near fine copy with a trace of spotting to the edges in a rubbed dust jacket with some small small chips and tears. Basis for the film biography of boxer Jack Johnson, which starred James Earl Jones. Yaphet Kotto replaced James Earl Jones on stage when he left the play to do the movie. Kotto began his acting career on Broadway and then in film, portraying Parker in Alien with Sigourney Weaver, and in television as Baltimore police Lieutenant Al Giardello in the hit series Homicide: Life on the Street.
