London: Smith's Publishing Co Ltd, 1913. First Thus. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. This is Vol IV. of the Seventh Series of this work. As the title suggests, it is a collection of essays and writings by some of the greatest scholars and thinkers of its age, encompassing many subjects, such as philosophy, history, society, art, poetry, science and engineering, etc. A real insight into a world that now seems very far away. Green cloth boards with gilt titles and embossed black decor on front, back and spine. Edges and corners are only lightly rubbed, but there is noticeable damage from mildew and/or damp on the boards. Internally, in good condition: pages unmarked and only slightly yellowed, in excellent bindings.
