London: Andre Deutsch, 1966. 515pp, index, bibliography, appendices, bw ills, endpaper maps. Or blue cloth in jacket. Edges spotted and endpapers/prelims slightly foxed. Jacket a little slack with some edge wear and a couple of very short closed tears. In 1797 as the French Revilution was unfolding, Britain's sheild against invasion, the naval fleet is rendered impotent by mutiny. In a spontaneous uprising over appalling conditions and brutality 50000 men in 113 ships refused to obey orders and expel their officers. The mutinies at Spithead and Portsmouth were the longest and among the best organised in naval history.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Near Very Good. 8vo.
