Includes complete and unabridged stories by Joseph Conrad, Ernest Hemingway, John Galsworthy, Willa Cather and eight others in this anthology. Selected, and with a foreword & biographical notes, by Bennett Cerf, editor and co-owner of the Modern Library. --- In Toledano spine 8 / red cloth / gilt titling on black spine & cover blocks / black topstain / grey Kent endpapers / jacket style i, verso lists 385 titles in ML catalog. Likely published c.1959 (though 1942 date appears in book). ML #168.2. --- With infrequent penciled underlinings, spotting to topstain, prior owner's signature to ffep, and dulling to cover gilding, else a tightly-bound, sound copy. Unclipped dust jacket ($1.65) with dampstained spine, a few tears and chips but mostly intact and wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.; 12mo (7 to 7-1/2 in. tall); viii, (2), 480, (6, ads) pages .
