About This Item
Hardback. Very Good/Good. Spur Publications, Hindhead, 1978 first edition; large 8vo, ppviii, 269; price snipped slightly too enthusiastically from the dust wrapper, small tear at the dw head and an erasure mark on the front end paper but nevertheless a good copy; pictorial end papers and profusely illustrated in the text with both monochrome and colour images of a very wide range of horses and of activities connected with them. The book is a thorough examination and history of the four breeds comprising the totality of modern heavy horses - Shire, Clydesdale, Suffolk and Percheron, horses which can weigh a ton, have a girth of over 8 feet and a height of perhaps six feet at the withers. NOTE that overseas orders but not UK ones will attract a postage supplement on account of the base weight of approaching 1,150g.
