The famous book illustrator emigrated to London in 1732, and soon became an important figure in introducing the Rococo style to British design. With a catalogue of works illustrated by Gravelot, the work was originally intended to assist collectors of French engravers. The volume also includes a short biographical introduction to the artist, a discussion of his art, and 21 plates of Gravelot's engravings, collated and complete. Vera Salomons was an elusive cosmopolitan intellectual, best remembered for founding and funding the L.A. Mayer Museum of Islamic Art in Jerusalem.
