Slightly smaller book, dark green cloth spine, gray cloth boards with very tiny horse carriage illustration on front, silver lettering and design very fine on spine, dark gray inside covers and adjacent end papers, 312 lightly browned pages. DJ beneath mylar, front and spine has yellow background with illustration of grandfather clock at front right, b/w photo of Adams on top back, lightly soiled overall. DJ has microtear and two micronicks at spine top edge. Near Very Good DJ/Fine book.
Synopsis
Grandfather Stories is a book of 23 historical tales by journalist and novelist Samuel Hopkins Adams. Three were originally published in Woman's Day and 15 in The New Yorker. Most of the stories take place in upper New York State, along the Erie Canal. Those stories told by his grandfather occur in the 1820s; others, when Adams was a boy in the 1870s and 1880s.
