About This Item

Very rare (none on WorldCat & only one at auction in the last century) panorama of Cairo. This copy in unique original color measuring 39.75 x 16 in (101 x 40.5 cm). Dry mounted to board. First Jaillot edition but possibly preceded by an edition of his father-in-law, Jacques Callot, which is now lost. (Cf.Christie's 20 July 2018). Engraved on two sheets that are joined. Title cartouche to upper left corner, with another cartouche describing the Sphinx to the upper right corner (see images).
