About This Item
Somerville, Massachusetts: Self-published, 1905 Green cloth; gilt spine lettering. With frontispiece photograph portrait of the author and more than fifty text plates, the majority of wood panels tinted in various tones to enhance and emphasize the grain of the wood. Some text plates are half-tone. "The chief object . . .of this book is to provide instruction for those of our trade. . . who desire to become proficient in graining." Because "[a] series of articles by the writer entitled "Practical Graining" were published in 1889-1890 in the "House Painting and Decorating Magazine" of Philadelphia . . .later issued in book form. . .[were] out of print for several years" and in demand, Wall published this volume. Moderate rubbing to cover extremities. Binding shaken, signatures somewhat loosened. A couple of very small brown spot stains to pp. 13-16 (bled through) and the intervening plate. Otherwise clean.
