A 1916 printing of the 1888 copyright. Green cloth with gold spine lettering that has some light wear to corners and top spine area. Ex Libris label on front endpaper The Library of The Harwood Girls' School Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Harwood Girls' School closed in 1976 ending almost 100 years of teaching. There are typical library markings to endpapers, top page edges, and the copyright page. No other defects noted to a tight book almost faultless interior text pages. Frontispiece portrait and 3 other illustrations. Teddy Roosevel wrote in his Preface 'Gouverneur Morris like his friend Alexander Hamilton had thatattractive touch of purple but he was too unstable and erratic to leave a profound mark on political developments. He performed two or three conspicuous feats, rendered several marked services to the country, and he embodied to a peculiar degree both he qualitites which made the Federalist parts so brilliant, and those other qualities which finally brought about the downfall. Morris stood for its weakness as well as for its strength.'
