About This Item
Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1983. First Edition. Near Fine/Near Fine. First edition, first printing. Signed by Dian Fossey on the title page and inscribed to former owners. Near Fine, with lean to spine, in a Near Fine dust jacket with light rubbing and fading to spine, light edge wear with several short tears, and light staining visible at the bottom edge of the rear flap and blank verso of the rear panel. An account of Fossey's research of gorillas at the Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda, which she founded on the cold, dark, extremely muddy slopes on the Virunga Volcanoes. A prominent primatologist and an inspiration to conservationists worldwide, it is thought that her opposition to poaching led to her brutal murder in 1985, two years after the publication of this book. The Karisoke Research Center carries on, to this day. This book served as the basis for the 1988 film of the same name, starring Sigourney Weaver.
