About This Item

New York: Astor-Honor, 1968. Book. Near Fine. Soft cover. re-issue. 16mo - over 5¾ - 6¾" tall. Four volumes in different colored stiff wrappers, housed in cardboard slipcase with large yellow pictorial label on side, illustrated by Edward Gorey. Includes the titles "The Fatal Lozenge" (1960); "The Hapless Child" (1961); "The Curious Sofa" (1961) [written under the pseudonym Ogdred Weary] and "The Sinking Spell" (1964). The first three titles were originally published by Astor-Honor, the last by Ivan Obolensky. Facsimile editions with all spines reading Obolensky as publisher and the first three titles listed above bearing the Astor-Honor imprint on title-page, the fourth "The Sinking Spell" bearing Ivan Obolensky on title. [Toledano A28]. All volumes illustrated with Gorey's Victorianesque macabre drawings. These facsimile editions are actually the second editions of each title, two of which were not offered again in separate formats ["The Fatal Lozenge" & "The Sinking Spell"]. A nice clean and tight set with sharp corners and no previous ownership marks. Very mild wear from opening evidenced on two volumes at front outer joint. Slipcase is solid with no tears or splits and two small spots of rear vertical closed panel. Overall a very nice set of these early Gorey titles. Near fine. .
