London: Peter Davies Limited. Near Fine. 1934. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. A first edition/first printing in near fine condition. There is some tanning to endpapers, but the pages are clean and tightly bound. The cloth boards are yellow with red and gilt stamped spine; Gordon At Khartoum is the story of Gordon, an Englishman who is captured by the Egyptians during the Anglo-Egyptian War of 1882. He is held as a prisoner of war at Khartoum for the next three years. During his captivity, Gordon becomes close to his jailer, Hassan, and to the other prisoners. He also becomes involved in the plotting against the Egyptian ruler, Ismail Pasha. Ultimately, Gordon escapes from Khartoum and returns to England.; Maps and illustrations; 8vo; 169 pages .
