About This Item

NY: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1908. (USA) 3rd edition. There is an owner's faint name stamp to the front fly, there are some stains to the cover boards (not bad), some faint spots to page edges, some wear to spine edges and edges of cover, consistent with the books age, pages generally clean, Good copy; no dust jacket perhaps as published. Putty coloured boards with titles in brown, pattenred end papers, xiv, 643pp, index, decorative chapter headers, no illus. per se. This book is copyright 1890; this the third edition 1908 with a new chapter and index. The author writes her preface from Antwerp, Belgium. This is a tremnsoud collection of recipes (perhaps 1000) drawn from French culinary traditions. The recipes are presented in the style of older cookery books , quite brief without the ingredients lists and presumes some fore-knowledge of cookery methods. The original preface includes a list of sources consulted from Mrs. Beeton, Mrs. Rorer and Miss Parloa to Careme and Soyer. Additionally the author references that the cuisine included is selected from "the best and most popular dishes of the Eastern States [...]; of Philadelphia [...]; from Baltimore and the South, many of the excellent dishes so well prepared by the negro cooks; and from further South still, we have the many delicious receipts furnished by the Creole school of cookery" (3.2 JM HOQ 100/3. 3rd. About JWMah

JWMah has been selling out-of-print, used and rare books on the Internet since 1997. Our stock consists of a good balance of fiction and non-fiction books in a wide range of subjects. We also sell classical Lp records. Our Cookbooks, Canadiana, Travel and Exploration catalogues are worth a look. We examine each book that we sell and try our best to grade the books conservatively. We are strictly an internet business, so usually the books put up for sale are in stock. We try update our books every two days so that our listings are as fresh as possible. It is best to contact us by e-mail or by telephone to reserve a book, as some books sell quickly. We are located in Canada's westcoast and we ship internationally.
