About This Item

London: Hutchinson, 1955 Hard cover, 8vo, in blue cloth, titles to spine in black, illustrated map endpapers, with illustrations and photographs, First Edition, in an unclipped original dust jacket, 254pp. This travel memoir by the English Author, novelist, historian and poet Louis Golding (1895 - 1958), traces the journey of Odysseus through the Mediterranean isles. "He wanted to to accomplish the Odyssey for himself, to find out what songs the siren sang, to catch a glimpse of Helen's golden hair above the ramparts of Troy, to eat lotus in the island of the lotus-eaters, to end his adventures in the exquisite island from which Odysseus originally set out and to which he ultimately returned." (from the blurb) Sadly, shortly after the author visited, Ithaca suffered a major earthquake destroying much of the area and its buildings. CONDITION: Very Good Plus. Some fore edge foxing, owner's bookplate to front pastedown, in a Very Good dust jacket which shows wear at the edges (now protected in mylar). OCLC 832591.. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus/Very Good.
