Macmillan & Co. London. 1899. Second edition, Third printing overall. This edition listed as the "cheap reissue". Originally published in 1875, this printing adds the new rules of Golf, as adopted by the Royal and Ancient and also updates the R. & A. medal list. Small 4to. (8.5 x 6.4 inches). Illustrated with six plates and sixteen wood engravings by various artists including Hugh Thomson, James Drummond and Birket Foster. Decorative head and tail pieces & initial letters by Clark Stanton and C. A. Doyle. A few pages affected by foxing but mostly a very bright clean copy finely bound in recent full dark green morocco, spine with five raised bands, compartments decorated with club and players devices and lettered in gilt. Single gilt ruled border on boards. Top edge gilt. Overall a very good copy in an attractive leather binding.
