About This Item
London: Macmillan & Company, 1909. Finely bound example of the Golden Treasury. Octavo, bound in full morocco, elaborate gilt tooling to the spine, front and rear panels, raised spine bands, inner dentelles, moire silk endleaves, all edges gilt. In fine condition. British critic, anthologist and poet Francis Turner Palgrave published both criticism and poetry. His principal contribution to the development of literary taste was contained in his Golden Treasury of English Songs and Lyrics (1861), an anthology of the best poetry in the language constructed upon a plan sound and spacious, and followed out with a delicacy of feeling which could scarcely be surpassed.
