New York: the John Day Company, 1957. Undetermined. near fine. 1st US Edition. 316pp. Octavo. Original yellow coated cloth covered boards with teal lettering on spine. Bump to top end of spine. Clean, tight text block. Contains an illustration (B/W) and a chart spread over two pages. In dust jacket, not price clipped. Light wear to edges of jacket with some minor chipping near the end of the spine. Light stain from sticker residue on top right corner of front of jacket. A lovely copy. near fine It tells the story of a novice midshipman, Peter Palafox, who joins Anson's 1740 circumnavigation of the globe. As with O'Brian's later AubreyÑaturin series the book contains a wealth of period detail, a smattering of historical figures including the midshipman Keppel who has a song for every occasion. 1957
