This vastly entertaining copy is from the library of noted American poet and critic William Matchett, and features his 9 pages of holograph and typed notes for his review of Seth's noted novel in verse for 'Writer's Digest', as well as an autograph letter by author Vikram Seth, 2 pages in ink holograph on a single leaf, presenting Seth's response to the review (addressed to editor Judson Jerome who sent it to Matchett), which was both spirited in its self-confessed 'nitpicking' (identifying no less than a dozen typographic errors in the review), and appreciative: 'Thank you for your preview of your very generous article... My editorial background incites me to point out a few typos,,, So much for my nitpicking. I'm delighted you enjoyed my book, & found it not just lighthearted but moving too. I, like you, hope that poetry won't remain at the fringe of literary activity and will enjoy a revival of the popularity it once had. Best wishes Vikram Seth.' Also laid in loose is a.
