About This Item

Portland: Binfords & Mort, 1961. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Good. 1st printing. Cloth. 312pp. Illus. Index. Cattle brands on the endpapers. A fine Oregon cattle and ranching biography set in the John Day valley. On the dedication page is the signature of a noted Washington State rancher, "Ralph W. Snyder / Bar U Ranch / Washtucna." An internet search reveals that Ralph W. Snyder owned the Snyder Mercantile Co. 1910-53 & a collection of mercantile & ranch papers are housed at Whitman College. A further search sadly gave the account of the tragic death of the son of Snyder in an airplane crash near Coulee City, WA, in 1959.
