1907. JOHNSTON, Mary. THE GODDESS OF REASON. Boston: Houghton, Mifflin, 1907. Small quarto: decorative gray cloth, stamped in white. First Edition. Signed inscription by Johnston on the front endpaper: "Over Yr. the sunken town, When thou sailest look not down, Mariner, Mariner! For there dwells a fairy there, Will drag thee down by the long hair, Mariner, Mariner! Mary Johnston. 1909." Also inscribed by Julia Marlowe, the actress who played Yvette in the stage production: "Gold fish, gold fish, how are the fish of Quiberon? Yvette- Goddess of Reason. Julia Marlowe, 1908." A unique copy but not in the best condition. Good (covers and top of text dampstained); worn (large chips & tears (related dampstaining) d/j. $250.00.
