Tokyo: Nippon Yusen Kaisha, 1932. Tall thick 4to. Approx 900 pp (sections separately paginated). 1000s of photos, colour photos, illusts., text illusts., maps, colour-illust maps for the World-Wide N.Y.K. line on endpapers, and in the silk on covers. Quarter-black cloth over simulated orange calf, Art Deco cover art of ocean liner on front cover in blue & white on orange, beveled boards, recessed thumb tabs (minor rubbing, edgewear, small wear to corners), still VG copy, w/ former ownership markings on ffep. First edition, thus of this scarce itinerary and travelogue for the NYK passenger and shipping lines in the 1930’s, against the backdrop of Japanese incursions into China. Of special interest are two colour woodblock prints entitled “A Daimyo on his Way to Yedo (Old Tokyo)” and “Picnic Under a Canopy of Cherry Blossoms”. There are sections included on Japan, Taiwan (Formosa), Chosen, Kwantung Territory, Manchoukuo, China, Hong Kong, Philippines, French Indo-China, Thailand, Indonesia, Burma, Ceylon, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, much of Europe, British Columbia, and Hawaii.
