About This Item
Henry Holt and Company, 1957. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Good. First Edition Stated dust jacket is not price clipped. Book and dust jacket have wear to edges. Dust jacket has small (1/4") tears to top of spine. Binding is square and tight, pages are clean. Illustrated with Photographs Here is the rousing story of Bob Reeve, Alaska's first glacier pilot, and of the tough, planes, without communications, navigational aids, or airfields. It is a story of how raw courage, incredible determination, a strong sense of humor, and an unquenchable lust for life and excitement helped to convert a rugged frontier into the Alaska of today. In 1932, when Bob Reeve climbed off a freighter at Valdez, Alaska, he was broke, ill, and without a plane to fly. Today Reeve is running a successful commercial airline through "the worst weather in the world" along the fog-shrouded Aleutian chain. Between 1932 and the present, Reeve has made a career of doing the kind of flying that no one else wanted to do, and his exploits have won him the description of "half-bird" and the title of "the greatest rough-terrain pilot of our continent.
