About This Item
Good. 1896. Pamphlet. Self wraps, black lettering. Pamphlet was folded multiple times and has moderate creasing and foxing. The lectures given by Fairbanks followed the life of Marcus Whitman, a physician and missionary who traveled West by wagon along the Oregon Trail. "[Whitman's] alleged political influence over the United States' claim to the Oregon country, as well as his purported leadership role in the emigration, were greatly exaggerated in the decades following his death, leading to great controversy in popular and academic literature" (Wikipedia). The lecture was entitled "The Ride that Saved an Empire" and "Where Rolls the Oregon" and featured numerous views. One copy in OCLC that was dated to March 23, 1896, no copies found with this location or date.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
