'Gideon's Trumpet' by Anthony Lewis, his contemporaneous 1964 account of the legal ordeal of Clarence Earl Gideon - which eventually led to Gideon v. Wainwright, 372 U.S. 335 (1963), the landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the Court unanimously held that in criminal cases states are required under the Sixth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to provide an attorney to defendants who are unable to afford their own attorneys. Octavo, illustrated wraps, 277 pp. +1. Fine; gleaming and virtually as new, with just a faint amount of age-toning at page edges since it wa, in fact, new, in 1989. Bright and tight. See scans.
