New York: Viking Press, 1956. Author and illustrator William Pene Du Bois (1916 - 1993) won the Newbery Medal in 1948 for his book Twenty-One Balloons. He also earned Caldecott Honors as an illustrator. 1956 Second Edition 8vo size hardcover with dust jacket; 125 pages illustrated throughout with black and white illustrations by the author including many that are full page. From jacket: "The whole thing started with a warning to 'Senor Beel' to vacate his hotel room - which turned out to be right across from the huge building where a young giant was living. A young giant who washed with the hose from a real fire engine, who spanked elephants, and who stood seven stories high." Ex-library with typical treatments, jacket covered with mylar. Significant edgewear on bottom of book. Rough area on fep where original library pocket was replaced. We noted fingermarks or soil on fep, title page, pages 25-27, 29, 36, 46, 47, 72, 84, 95, 106, 107, 110 and tiny tear in the far margin of page 27/28. Some pages have handing wear or light creasing and there is a small spot on outside pages or in the far margin of some pages. . 2nd. Cloth. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Ex-Library.
