Friedrich Gottlob Hayne (1763-1832) was a German botanist, taxonomist, pharmacist and professor. Beginning as a pharmacist in Berlin from 1778 to 1796, he worked as an assistant for the Royal Prussian Chemical Factory for several years before teaching pharmaceutical botany at the University of Berlin from 1811 until his death. Getreue Darstellung is his masterpiece, published over 30 years from 1805 to his death, and completed posthumously by his widow in 1837.

Duppa (1770-1831) was draughtsman and writer who authored a wide range of works. The bindings have newer spines with raised bands and author and title labels. The boards are marbled and retain their original corners. The spines have become sunned but are sound; corners and edges with wear and varying degrees of surface loss. The books do not lie completely flat when opened. Internally the endpapers are marbled matching the boards. They have the bookplate of Gloria Rollinson.
