About This Item
Parma: Nel Regal Palazzo, Co' Tipi Bodoniani, 1794 and 1807.. Demy 4to., measuring 220 x 286 mm. 2 vols. Vol. 1 is the second printing of 1807, (virtually identical to first edition of 1794) Vol. 2 is the first edition thus, published in 1794. Printed by Bodoni. There was also an imperial quarto edition which is often erroneously catalogued as a folio. Text in Italian. Both volumes were contemporaneously bound in identical half-leather with marbled boards, endpapers and edges. Both bear book plates on f.e.p. for John Walbanke Childers. Following title page in Vol. 1 is a dedication page which bears the text, "All' augustissimo cattolico monarca delle Spagne Carlo IV di Borbone imperadore delle Indie, ec.; Giambatista Bodoni suo tipographo di camera." Both volumes are in good condition, with rubbed covers and edges, spines are missing pieces of leather exposing various layers underneath, binding tight and sturdy, interior clean with some light foxing throughout. First Published in 1581, Tasso's (1544-95) verse epic on the 11th-century First Crusade and the love of Tancred and Clorinda is one the masterpieces of Italian literature.
